EMERGENSEA actions 2007-2013

The arrival of the helicopter at Millenium Jump caused real ecstasy among the people of Zadar

How the EmergenSea network of contractual partners was born

In the summer of 2007, the first Millennium Jump was held on the Zadar waterfront. An unprecedented event that, in its first edition, left an indelible mark in the hearts of Zadran and others who participated in it. EmergenSea was in charge of the tasks of organization, marking of the entire field, and the safety of swimmers and boats (which observed the entire event from the sea side).

From vision to project

At that time, ES was only an idea and a vision in the minds of the founders and initiators of the future project. You can see the dinghy with which we did a lion's work in the pictures in the gallery. The motivation and energy we received then, with which we started a project that seemed bigger than ourselves, is still present today.

The founders

Encouraged by the success, the trio of the ES team started looking for partners in the Adriatic. Through a play of lucky circumstances, we reached Maks Harašić from Milna on Brač and established the first contact and contract. We visited Pelješac, Vis (Komiža), Lastovo and Mljet by car and dinghies, and we can say from this perspective that the backbone of the future EmergenSea network of contract partners is already in place for the 2008 season. Including Pula, which joined in the same year, and the first contractual partners of the ES network are:·
  • Maksi Harašić / Milna on Brač·
  • Vito Ravlić / Korčula-Pelješac·
  • Ratko Marćeta / Lastovo·
  • Pino Vojković / Komiža (Island Vis)·
  •  Mario Orlandini / Mljet·
  • Robert Radola / Pula·
  • Marin Dunatov / Zadar

First promotions and marine events

Already in the summer of 2008, the RIS Marine 850 SAR arrived in Zadar, and after that the same SAR dinghies with modifications and improvements were given to the bases in Pula, Milna on Brač and Korčula. This did not go unnoticed, so invitations followed for almost all events, regattas and assistances that took place on the Adriatic.

Manifestations and events

Events such as the Hungarian National Sailing Championship (broadcast live on the Sailing Channel), the Viška Regatta, the Barotul Regatta, the Czech National Championship, the ORC Championship of Croatia or Škraping are only a part of the events in which we are entrusted with escorting or carrying out all maritime work, including safety and physical security .

Help at sea

Towing, rescuing stranded and sunken vessels and emergency transport to islands and the mainland are the backbone of our business. During the first years, we worked for almost all insurance companies in Croatia and for charter companies along the Adriatic. Already in 2009, over 200 interventions went through the ES call center, ranging from simple deliveries to rescuing stranded vessels and towing vessels over 60 GRT through narrow channels and passages.

We learned one thing quickly

Haste in night sailing conditions and poor concentration on lights and maritime markings, use of drugs and alcohol, etc. are frequent causes of stranding. One case happened in the port of Korčula a minute before the closing of the pumping station, which the skipper wanted to reach at any cost. In the end, the price was not small, which is usually the rule.  Carelessness, high speed and the desire to see the coast from as close as possible (without accompanying the depth) resulted in stranding in Veli Rat. Sinking can also happen in port while the ship is moored due to the negligent behavior of the owner. We have learned one thing, and that is that carelessness, lack of vigilance and haste most often lead to accidents.
